My Years at SMS...

After all these years at SMS it's finally coming to end. I've had so much fun over the years. I'm gonna miss my friends, who have become family, so much. I have no idea what my life would be like if I'd never met my friends. I get pretty depressed just thinking about it! One of my favorite memories is going to ELC and spending a week with everyone! I really hope I'll be able to stay in touch with my friends in high school! Thanks to everyone for so many great years!

Me and one of my BFF's, Tessa.

Borrowing Money

For 21st Century class we watched some videos on borrowing money. I learned that if you borrow money  from the bank, you have to do some research and find the plan that's right for you. If you choose a plan that's not right, you could end up having to pay a big amount of money for a short period of time, and you could easily fall behind on your payments. If you choose the right plan, it will be much easier to manage your money, and get your payments in on time. It's also important that you don't overspend and get into major debt, because it will be hard to get out of it later.

Foods

So, another random post, but I'm bored. So I decided I would write about all the weird foods I've had.
Rattlesnake- I don't remember where I had it. I think it was Arizona. Anyway, we at this restaraunt and I was with all my cousins. Weirdly enough, it tasted like chicken.
Swordfish- Yeah, I know, it sounds disgusting, but when you drench it in sauce and eat it with noodles it's pretty good. I had it at Disney World.
Caviar- There's nothing I can really say about it, except that I didn't like it too much. Tasted like fish. Had it at Disney World.
Ratatouille- It's not exactly weird, but it's interesting. I liked it. Again, I had it at Disney World.
If I think of anymore I'll add them on!

Coconut

So, this is kinda random, but a couple weeks ago on friday, we got a new puppy! Her name is Coconut (which explains the title), and she's soooo cute! She's a mix between a Shihtzu and a Bichon Frise, a.k.a. a teddy bear puppy! Here's a picture of her!

ELC!

So, as you probably know(if you read my earlier post) our eighth grade class went up to Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center (ELC) for a week, and we had a great time! Some things that we did were rock climbing, hiking, a ropes course, and a lot of walking! It was my room's chaperon's birthday the second day we were there, so we surprised her by decorating the day room and the outside of the door! It was so cool! She really appreciated it! The ropes course was thirty feet up and had a lot of things in it like a wooden bridge, a wire with "railings", two logs, a single wire without "railings", a single log, and then you came back down to the ground on a zip line! It was so much fun! The last day I was there I went on a superior view hike where we hiked to the top of a mountain and saw Lake Superior. It was so pretty! The teachers tried to play a prank on us the last night we were there, but we found out and totally blew it! Some of my class had no idea what even happened! Including me :)! We also had a class about beavers and stream study. In beavers we walked down 200 plus stairs and looked for signs of beavers. We saw a lot of beaver trails(also called drags), a beaver lodge, and a dam. If you followed the drags you could see a lot of the wood being chewed up. It was pretty cool. In stream study we took samples of Sawmill Creek to see how much life is there. Then we started seeing what life we could find. A couple people caught some crayfish. We did lots of other stuff, but it would take me WAY too long to type it all! We had an awesome time, and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to go!

Jobs

Work isn't always fun, but it can be. This is another assignment for my 21st century class. I'm writing about jobs and what kind of job I might want to work when I get older. Work at school seems different than out of school because I feel like I'm more pressured to get my schoolwork done than my work out of school. You don't always have to be payed for work, but if you're not payed, to me it doesn't seem like work. If you really love your job, it isn't really work. I would really enjoy being a baker or photographer. I love cooking in the kitchen and taking pictures of flowers, my dogs, my friends, and random stuff.

Field Trip!

My eighth grade class leaves for an awesome field trip this Monday! I can't wait! We load the buses at 5 a.m. Monday morning :(, but from there on it's five days full of fun(and sleep:P)! We'll get there around 11 or 12, eat, then go to our first activity! By the end of the week I'm sure I'll be REALLY tired! I'll post afterwards and let you know how it was. I'm sure it'll be great!

Images

I'm posting to tell you about what I know and what I've learned about using photos on my blog and in my projects. I realize that I've probably been using pictures that I'm not supposed to be using. Ever since starting my blog I've been trying my best to give credit to the people I got the pictures from. Creative Commons is a great way to get pictures. There are so many different types of pictures, there's really no need to go out and use a copyrighted picture. Creative Commons allows me to use pictures easily, as long as I give attribution to the creator. I will do my best not to use a copyrighted image again.

I Spend Money....

For 21st century I have to write about some ways I spend money. The most common thing I spend money on is probably clothes and jewelry. I probably also spend a lot of money on random lotions and lip gloss that I will probably never use. One way I could change and save some money is to think before I buy: Am I going to use this? That will probably save me a lot of money, and keep me from buying things I will forget about later and never use.

Health Care

As another 21st assignment I have to right about the new health care law. The new law is called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. It states that anyone who doesn't have health care by 2014 must pay a fine. Some people think that it is a good idea, but others believe that it goes against the constitution by forcing some people to buy something. The Supreme Court's final decision is due out in June, and will most likely have a major effect on the upcoming election.

:-(

Sadly my vacation is over, and I have to leave sunny Florida for good old Minnesota. But all good things come to an end, right? I had a great time! One of my favorite things about Disney is that there are lots of parks you can go to. One of them is called Epcot. Epcot's cool because it has this thing called the "World Showcase." The world showcase has little areas on some major places in th e world. They also have different foods from each place. I love trying foods I never would have had before. This trip I had swordfish and even caviar!

Spring Break!

So, spring break is coming up and I'm super excited! I'm going to Florida! Me and my dad are going to fly there this Thursday after school, then my mom is going to come and join us on Saturday! I'll get to see all of my family, including my adorable baby cousin! There are so many things to do, including just hanging out at our condo! And, I might meet one of my friends down there, and we would go to Disney World together! That would be so cool! I can't wait! I'll keep posting and let you know how it went!

Working In MN

This post is about minimum wage and working hours for teens with jobs in Minnesota. This is an assignment for my 21st century class. Minimum wage for the state of Minnesota can be divided into three different groups. For a large employer the minimum wage is $6.15 an hour. For a small employer it's $5.25, and the training wage is $4.90.

During the summer a worker under the age of 16 may not work before 7  a.m. or after 9 p.m., or more than 40 hours per week or more than 8 hours every 24 hours. During the school year they are not allowed to work any later than 7 p.m., no more than 3 hours per day, and no more than 18 hours a week. The only restrictions that apply to a teenage worker between the ages of 16 or 17 is that they may not work later than 11 p.m. or earlier than 5 a.m. on a school day.

It's official! Registration ended last night, so I'm officially signed up for classes at OHS. I'm pretty nervous. I'm afraid I'll lose touch with some of my best friends! I just can't help thinking that after summer we might not even see each other until graduation! I wish everyone luck in the years of high school, and hope I stay in touch with you!

Me

My name is Liana, and I'm in 8th grade. I created this blog as an assignment in my 21st century skills class. In 21st, we are on the computer a lot, and get to learn about things that are happening in America, right now. Some times we just go out and find current events, then right posts on them.

I like animals and just hanging out with my friends. I also play the trumpet, and piano. Being involved in school and other activities is very important to me. Sometimes I like taking pictures, especially of my dog Pepper.
